Every coach on our staff swam for BST as a kid. They know this pool, this team, and what it means to grow up in the water here. Now they're giving that back.
"Every swimmer who walks onto this deck deserves a coach who sees them — not just their times."
Every coach on our staff swam for BST as a kid. The then-and-now photos below are a reminder of where it all started — and why they came back.
Parker has been part of BST since 2012, when she joined at age 4. She swam for twelve years — competing year-round from age 5 until COVID interrupted winter training — and spent the last three as a volunteer coach working with younger swimmers before stepping into the assistant coach role last season.
Her goal for 2026 is simple: bring the culture back. The music at meets, the snacks, the games, the cheering. Parker grew up on all of it, and she knows that swim team is as much about friendship and fun as it is about getting faster. She's also taught swim lessons at Memorial Park for several years, helping the youngest kids find their footing in the water.
BST made her who she is. Now she's making it for someone else.
Our two assistant coaches work side by side with Parker at every practice and meet — both BST swimmers themselves.
Natalie grew up in the water — she started swimming for BST at age 7 and spent the next seven and a half years competing year-round. Summers belonged to BST; winters took her to the Greenwood Swim Team at Keene State and later KYD in Keene, and she competed nationally through USA Swimming. Her proudest moment: winning the 2023 state title in the 100-yard backstroke.
Though she stepped away from competitive swimming to explore other interests, the water never really let her go. She became a lifeguard in 2025, is CPR certified, and coaches with the same energy she once got from her own coaches as a kid. BST is where it started for her — and she's glad to be back.
Lydia is a current student at Brattleboro Union High School and a BST alum through and through. She swam with the team for many years and never really stopped loving the water. Her favorite strokes were backstroke and butterfly — two of the most technically demanding — and she brings that same energy to the deck whether she's working with a beginner finding their first freestyle or a seasoned swimmer dialing in their flip turn. She can't wait for the season.
This summer we've invited coaches from year-round clubs across the Connecticut River watershed to come as special visiting stroke technicians — to do targeted stroke work with swimmers in small groups or sometimes one-on-one. Whether it's unpacking the mechanics of the breaststroke, working on dives off the block, or helping the littles (and olders!) build fundamentals that will make them better swimmers, these visits are one of the highlights of our season.
BST draws swimmers from Brattleboro and the surrounding towns on both sides of the Connecticut River. The year-round clubs these visiting coaches represent serve those same communities. We think building those relationships early — between summer swimmers and winter programs — is good for the whole watershed.
Julia grew up in Springfield and spent nearly 30 years coaching in Florida at every level — from learn-to-swim through national and college competition. In 2021 she attended the Olympic Trials with a swimmer she'd coached for a decade. She moved back home in 2023 and brings exceptional depth of experience to the BST deck.
Qays coaches with the Stingrays at the Edgar May Health and Recreation Center in Springfield, bringing year-round competitive coaching experience from one of the region's strongest club programs.
Megan swam for Beverly YMCA before becoming a coach, and has a rare gift for transitioning young swimmers from lessons into structured competitive swimming. She holds a Masters in Education and teaches elementary school in Troy, NH.
The Connecticut River watershed connects communities across Vermont and New Hampshire. BST is proud to serve as a bridge between summer swimming and the year-round clubs that develop competitive swimmers in our region. If your club is interested in sending a coach to lead a clinic, or if you'd like to learn more about how BST fits into the regional swimming landscape, reach out to us.
